How To Stay Consistent With Your Fitness Goals

If you’re like most people, then you’ve tried to lose weight at some point in your life. Whether it was for a specific event or just wanting to feel better about yourself, there’s no denying that the journey is complex and requires dedication. However, if you struggle with staying consistent with your fitness goals, these tips will help.

Make Specific Goals

To be successful with your fitness journey, it is critical that you set specific and clear goals. It’s not enough to just say you want to lose weight; how much do you want to lose? How long do you plan on losing it for? What are the consequences of your weight loss progress stops? When setting your goals, it’s important to remember the SMART criteria:

  • Specific – Be specific in your goal. How much weight do you want to lose? What is the exact date that you plan on losing it by? Where exactly will you be when you achieve this goal?
  • Measurable – Make sure your goal is measurable. This means that it should be quantifiable, i.e., you can measure your progress by looking at a number on the scale or a measuring tape.
  • Attainable – Is this goal attainable? If you set a goal to lose 30 pounds in 2 weeks, is this achievable based on your current lifestyle and health situation? The goal must be attainable but challenging. If it’s too easy, you’re likely to lose interest and not see results.
  • Relevant – Is this goal relevant? Does it mean something to you personally? Why are you doing this? What will achieving this goal do for your overall happiness and well-being?
  • Time-bound – Is there a deadline for achieving this goal? What’s stopping you from reaching your goal right now? Make sure that the length of time is appropriate. If you set a goal to lose 30lbs in one week, this isn’t realistic.

Start Small

When it comes to staying consistent with your fitness goals, your best bet is to take things slow and start small. If you’re a total beginner, then the best thing for you is to start with a target of going on a walk every day. Don’t even think about anything more strenuous than this – yet! As you get more comfortable with your workout routine, increase your time working out or add additional exercises. Remember to keep things slow so that they stay manageable and achievable.
