One person who is an inspiration to many is Mother Teresa. Born in 1910 in what is now Macedonia, Mother Teresa joined a Catholic order of nuns at the age of 18. She then spent the next 20 years teaching in India before founding the Missionaries of Charity, a religious order dedicated to helping the poor and sick. Since its inception, the Missionaries of Charity has expanded its work to helping lepers, orphans, and HIV/AIDS patients. In addition, Mother Teresa has been celebrated for her work with the destitute and dying in Calcutta’s slums. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, and her example inspires people worldwide.

Marilyn Monroe was an American actress, model, and singer. Famous for her beauty and films, she is still an icon. Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson in 1926. She married at 16 and had a child at 17 but divorced shortly after. In 1946, she started her career as a model and began acting in films in 1947. Her first major film was “The Asphalt Jungle” in 1950. A year later, she starred in “Niagara,” which made her a household name.  Monroe’s unique blend of beauty, sex appeal, and vulnerability made her one of the most popular actresses of her time. She starred in several successful films throughout the 1950s, including “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” (1953), “The Seven Year Itch” (1955), and “Some Like It Hot” (1959). Unfortunately, Monroe died of an overdose of barbiturates in 1962. She was 36 years old. Monroe’s life was full of tragedy, but she never let it defeat her. She remains an inspiration to many people around the world.

Kelly Holmes is an inspiring figure who has overcome a great deal of adversity to become one of the most successful athletes in the world. Born in Kent, England, she was a middle-distance runner who specialized in the 800 meters and 1500 meters. She represented Great Britain at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games, but injuries plagued her career. Despite this, she persevered and won gold medals in the 800 meters and 1500 meters at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Her achievement was remarkable because she had only returned to competitive running six months before the Olympics. In 2006, she was awarded a Damehood for her services to sport. Today, she is an inspiring example of what you can achieve through dedication and hard work.
